There have been many Great Bearded Men throughout history. The beard has fallen out of favor among modern day society, often looked upon with distaste. This is wrongheaded. I hope, in my own small way, to help restore facial hair to its former greatness. In this post about Great Men who sported Great Beards, I choose an awe inspiring set of whiskers.
This Great Man was also a great father, but not of children, of science! Galileo is considered the Father of Modern Observational Astronomy, Father of Modern Physics, Father of Science, and the Father of Modern Science. Sadly, Galileo did not live in enlightened times and the Catholic Church condemned him for trying to tell the world that the Earth was not the center of the Universe. He was convicted of being too smart for his own good (heresy) and lived out the remainder of his days under House Arrest.
Mr. Galilei, the human race owes you an immense debt of gratitude. Your magnificent Beard is surpassed only by your magnificent mind.
