I pulled Conventional today for the first time since May of 2017. I figured it was a good time to try it since I have nagging hip adductor pain which I assume is from all the sumo pulling.
To test it, I figured I’d repeat the exact workout I did with my Sumo pull last week. I think the pulling was much faster which is to be expected as Sumo is slower off the floor but quicker to lock out. Conventional is faster off the floor, but slower and harder to lock out.
As light as the training was today (pulling sets of 4 at an RPE of 6) lockout was not an issue of course, but I was still impressed with how fast the weight moved. I seemed to get faster as the sets went on.
I don’t know that I’ll switch over to Conventional for my competition lift but I may keep using it for a while to just see if I’m stronger with it. I will say it was more fatiguing than Sumo during the sets themselves. Perhaps the longer ROM makes it more tiring. I dunno.
