A Valiant Effort

After seven months, it was clear that time and length, arguably the solution to most beard “problems,” were not coming to my rescue. With thin cheeks and sideburns, the full beard I was sporting looked unacceptable to me; a wispy attempt that just fell short.

I trimmed off the offending whiskers and trimmed up the goatee, as a long goat doesn’t suit my face.

I’ve got 5 months of minoxidil remaining, so I will continue to apply it and perhaps without hair in the way, I can get better absorption and some results from my efforts. It is doubtful as I have had zero results thus far. There is a percentage of men for whom minox doesn’t work in restoring scalp hair, and of course it isn’t even recommended for facial hair, so it is most likely that I will not respond to the medication.

While I’m disappointed, it doesn’t make much sense to be at odds with your own genetics, so I’ll need to get over it. I will work with my strengths, rather than trying to force my weaknesses into compliance. The mustache and goatee are enviably full as is my head of hair. Cutting my hair short and trying to grow a full beard is rather ironic.
